Say what you want about Tracksmith, but Matt Taylor has never taken to social to vent about brands that have ripped them off, including an obvious one that poached employees to help build their programs.

💯 agreed. i’m excited to see what they create w him back at the creative helm.

That would be uncouth. And Matt is certainly passionate!

I mean, technically Yeezy was making athleisure wear over a decade ago in neutrals with holes in them. This isn't a new concept.

I’ve been a fan of satisfy from their inception, they disrupted a really stale market and offered something truly new in the running space. I’ve raced many marathons in a satisfy kit because their stuff works and looks good, perfect for race day. However, I agree that Brice looks like a dick here. From the day Currently launched, it was clearly a budget friendly take on some of satisfys core line, and who gives a shit? Satisfy made good stuff, and that inspired Nash to make… good stuff…. Which is… good for running… currently also jumped on the women’s side of apparel quick (points for currently there). If Brice really feels a certain way about it, he should have just hired Nash and bought currently, wasn’t that a thing in streetwear ages ago? Buying out the people making the fakes and hiring them? Either way, bad look for Brice.

Great read. Seeing stuff like this reminds me of when UYN Sports posted their new warped mesh product similar to what Gnuhr had been doing, which many people called out in the comments. Nur Abbas got on and commented "welcome UYN, genuinely" which felt like a refreshing acknowledgement of other brands innovating in the same lane as him. This is the exact opposite, haha

I find all the situation so… unprofessional? I mean, I accept personal affairs being handled like this - via social network private messages. But if you really think your work has been stolen or plagiarized, then point it out and handle everything professionally. Someone will judge if you are right or you aren’t. I’m not expecting a founder - the mind behind a brand - to make insinuations against other founders on social media and sharing the screenshots of private conversation?! 🙄

shitty people will be shitty! satisfy just lost a fan. i think success brings out the delusional grandiosity in people and it's clear Brice has fallen into that trap.

We're going to find out that Brice invested in Currently, aren't we

Literally just wrote a comedy take with the same idea 😂 and then saw your comment

Does that mean Brice is on Jamil’s payroll as an influencer? I'm into it

Hi Katherine, I just found out about you and your work (+ substack!) and as a young brand marketer in the running field, reading that makes me want to reflect more about how we build our brands and community. Plus, I totally agree on the patriarchy part aha.

FWIW, Soar actually started before Satisfy and a year after Tracksmith. They were as much of a trailblazer as the other two, especially when it comes to premium textiles.

I was wondering if someone was going to comment on this.

Not only unhinged it also felt a bit like the typical “manufactured rage” so typical nowadays.

Performant.

Not a good look.

KD - keep taking down the patriarchy!! What we need is more of THIS. Loved your take on this (not least because it made me smile remembering those years we spent in Vancouver together), and I hope you keep yelling it from the rooftops (Mount Sutro on a run).
