I've been running since the 90s and am 40 now, so I'm basically a crusty old beardy guy in nylon shorts and race tees old enough to drive. I like being serious about training (and foundation garments) and irreverent about everything else. But that leaves a dilemma: why then should I spend anything on sport-specific running garb? Which is why I'm paralyzed by shopping today...
I so resonate with this essay! I have had many ups and downs with running clothes, and I veer towards the most basic. But answer me this: postpartum, how have you answered the terrible question: which sports bra?
My cup size is A, but my breasts are still there; they still need support, and most sports bras are just, like, decorative. They don’t provide any support!
So I’ve landed on wearing nursing bras (although my baby stopped nursing in October)+ a cheap, Target sports bra just to get the support+ compression I need. What do you do?
hi! ugh…i hate sports bras. well, all bras in general but i *have* to wear a sports bra (😑). i’m also an A (if i’m being generous) and my go to’s are either bandit or a swiss brand called swijin.
bandit is great bc they have tons of pocketing but not great bc they fit super tight. i think they make them tight so the compression equals support but i feel like a stuffed sausage.
swijin i LOVE. i wear their ‘freeli’ bra - designed for medium support. it’s fully bonded so your body heat essentially warms the glue up and it creates a custom fit. it’s designed to dry super fast (the founder wanted a run bra she could also swim in) and there’s no elastic under the bust so i don’t get that cold post run bra feeling that makes me want to rip it off immediately. the front is a double layer so in theory could function as a pocket but i have yet to try it.
I would love a post on sports bras if you don't already have one!
